In animal species across the Earth it is usually the mothers, the females, who care, nurture, and continue their species survival. Lionesses bring the food to the family, female gorillas tend and clean the nests and fellow family members, female alligators carry their babies until they are large enough to fight off predators.
My favorite animal is the Elephant. Those females know how to dominate their social order! Elephants run the males out of the herd when they become violent. The whole group shelters the young from dangerous predators. They spend their entire lives together, and if one young daughter does break away to form a new clan, there is little animosity and still shared water hole space. If a group comes across a dead elephant while travelling, they stop and mourn. They do not revel in death, even if the deceased was a violent rogue. I often think that if Republicans would live up to their mighty mascot’s legacy they would have to do a 180 in their politics and policy.
Families and friends in Kansas, it is time to stand up for the good of the herd. The current brand of the Republican Party would close all public schools and turn them into private for-profit education centers, or non-profit church schools. If you want our schools to stay open, if the thought of school closings makes you weep, if you believe faith should be a private issue, you have got to stand up and fight back! We can’t simply talk about it and fret about it and wonder what to do. The time for civil disobedience is now!

I know it seems impossible to wrap your brain around. Everyone has bills to pay and mouths to feed; it seems impossible to attend a council meeting; as a parent you may already pay a large chunk of salary to childcare and can’t afford the additional cash to an evening babysitter. The daily news is so depressing we’d rather watch reruns of Friends and The Big Bang Theory. Instead of staying up-to-date on issues with PBS programs we collectively watch The Voice and WWE and NCIS.
Here’s the thing. You know how with diabetes, if it goes unchecked, if the diabetic doesn’t practice a strict diet, they could have to have their feet amputated? We have left our Government unchecked, have not given it the proper care and attention it deserves, and so are about to have our collective feet cut off!
So many issues affect our everyday lives it is practically impossible to keep up on the health of our community and society. Many folks blame the poor & unemployed, others blame the system and damn it as it is while praying to get through another day, week, or year. Heaven forbid anyone get so ill they have to visit a doctor, because the household budget cannot afford a day’s lost pay or a prescription. The personal issues that many Americans struggle with are rooted in the concentration of wealth & politics. Washington D.C. is a trillion dollar warfare industry, and that industry has trickled-down to the state government through billion dollar corporate influence. We cannot address any of our issues; health & wellness, education, jobs, environment, until we get the corrupting influences of big business and big money out of our government.
“Your society is broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it?
No, let’s blame the people with no power and no money and these immigrants who don’t even have the vote.” –Iain Banks

“In matters of truth and justice, there is no difference between large and small problems, for issues concerning the treatment of people are all the same.” –Albert Einstein
“You’re not supposed to be so blind with patriotism that you can’t face reality.
Wrong is wrong, no matter who says it.” –Malcom X
“He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.
He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.” -Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob, and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe.” –Frederick Douglass
